The Gods and Goddesses of Wind, Sun, and Dance

7/29/2018

Goddess Fest is a testament to Boise.  I love it because I love headdresses, paisley, magick, and most of all... belly dancers! I continue to be grateful to those that organize Goddess Fest: you provide a wonderful experience that allows people to express themselves.  Thank you for having us!

This year the Starbelly Dancers danced with the students from Starbelly School of Dance and it was wonderful.  Although I type today a little sick from the heat, I believe that yesterday I got a sneak peak into a magical moment of dance.  I am so grateful for the courage of the Starbelly Performance Team and the grace in which they live their lives and share their talent. I hope everyone is drinking a lot of water today!

Festivals don't offer ideal conditions for dance.  My giant veil decided to do what the wind told it to and I don't know why I keep on getting surprised by where my body sweats (and the amount)! However, there is something about sharing art with festival attendees. It is a beautiful and special act.

Sofia's Greek Bistro and What Greek Belly Dance Means to Me

7/19/2018

First off - Jess and I would love to dance with you in two days!

We are blurry, but still pretty.

Tori Talks Greek

Greece - actually the entire Mediterranean - has a mystique and mythology to me.  Yes, there is Greek mythology of course, but it is more than that.  The beautiful land, the ancient ruins, the AMAZING food, the air of the people and the passionate art they create. It's almost too good to be true.

When I perform Greek style belly dance, I keep these images in my head.  Many styles of folkloric dance often have specific aesthetics and characteristic movements that are definitive to the culture.  It isn't quite so with the Greeks.  There are two things I constantly keep in mind: one - am I listening to the music and two - am I having the best time of my life?  These two things help keep me authentic to the style and the wonderful people that dance it with me.

I'd love to share some Greek belly dance with you sometime soon!  Keep an eye on the gallery for videos.
